RUHR.2010 and EFA

The European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 invited Europe’s up-and-coming film directors to Unna Massimo.

Unna Massen becomes Unna Massimo – based on the model of and in cooperation with the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo. “Unna Massen”, a former facility for resettlers, immigrants and refugees, will turn into an enclave for creative people and artists from all over Europe. The EFA Master Class RUHR has made the start, inviting 30 young European filmmakers to Unna Massimo in December 2009.

In the vacant 1960s schools and apartments, the young directing talents spent three days meeting and exchanging ideas with the stars of European cinema (e.g. Danny Boyle) on an eye-to-eye level. Unna Massimo offered a protected space where the participants were able to contemplate ideas and gain new inspiration for the films of tomorrow. It has served as the starting point for explorations of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010 – and an encouragement to come back in the future. Finally, the participants of the EFA Master Class RUHR were invited to the 22nd European Film Awards ceremony 2009 at Bochum´s Jahrhunderthalle.
